Our Design Ethos
Alma House occupies the largest floor plate in New Bahru, a creative enclave curated by The Lo & Behold Group, nestled within a refurbished school building. Fuelled by a spirit of discovery, this ever-evolving lifestyle destination is home to some of the best establishments and visionary entrepreneurs from Singapore and beyond.
Alma House emerged from the adaptive reuse of a historic school building. In land-scarce Singapore, such adaptive reuse projects yield significant carbon emission savings, ranging from 40% to 70% compared to constructing new developments. Beyond mitigating pollution levels, this approach conserves time and resources that would otherwise be spent on demolishing and redeveloping buildings. Moreover, it serves as a means to preserve the social and cultural value inherent in this heritage site.
Alma House actively reduces its environmental impact through collaborative efforts with like-minded brands for its consumables. Our team is fully committed to the importance of sustainable operations and strives to maintain an energy-efficient property. This encompasses a paperless approach, as well as adhering to energy-saving, waste reduction, and water conservation practices that are responsive to occupancy levels and weather changes. In place of single-use bottle amenities are refillable bottles made of recyclable materials containing sustainable soap.
